Upgrades to items are a common and important way to improve the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They improve the stats of the item they're connected to. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items with upgrade components within them by using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. The damage absorption of an item of armor will increase when it's upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be more heavy.

There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each has a different effect. Some upgrades give armor a greater number of health points, while others make it more powerful and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item can get will be identified by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades are also magic or a mix of technology and magic which is shown by an "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees in order to be used.
